A lot of great things get posted on our comments pages, so I hope everyone follows the links to read the comments. (For example, Lauren Baratz-Logsted of This is Chick Lit fame herself posted in response to my blog about her new book. Heavens to Betsy! We’re famous!) Adele posted a particularly spectacular link in response to Allison’s post about the International Aids Conference.
It’s an ad Gwyneth Patrol did for an AIDS campaign. Advance warning: it may inspire a choking fit. Or projectile vomit. Please go look at this horrifying schlock.
Thanks Adele!

wow, I think this is actually worse than when Madonna used to wear a Bindi "because it looks cool." But even then, if Madonna wants to wear a Bindi, Britney a Hanbok, its different than to basically say something like "I Am Indian too: I Feel For You" along with it. Liking certain aspects of a culture and incorporating that into one's own dress or style? Sure. Making some outrageous "we are all human, feel the colorblind luv" identity statement like that is something else. it's a good cause but a terrible ad campaign :/

Of course you're famous, darlin', famous and shameless - can there be a better combo? :)

You know, after spending a month in Senegal (it's in West Africa) for a month, studying art history and culture and what not, I find that ad even more frickin' disgusting. What is up with the painted stripes on her cheek? In all my studies of various ethnic groups all over the continent (NOT the country) of Africa, I have NEVER seen someone with paint on their face like that.....EVER. Gwyneth Paltrow and the people who put together that add need to get a clue and do their homework. This ad exemplifies the patronizing and racist attitude Westerners have towards "Africans" (as if all people in Africa are one, monolithic ethnic group). In a nutshell, I have three words for you: "Gwyneth Paltrow sucks."
