I thought I was still dreamining on Saturday morning, when my alarm went off during an episode of the CBC’s show GO. The show’s concept was a contest called “Canada Skims Magazines,” a riff on the broadcaster’s Canada Reads literary contest, where celebrity panelists defend books they think the entire country should be reading.
On Saturday, GO invited four panelists to defend the magazine they think the entire country should skim. The lovely Jean Yoon was awesome enough to take Shameless on the show, pitting the mag against the much-more skimmable shopping mag Lou Lou, celeb mag HELLO Canada (defended by funny man Scott Thomson) and a gardening magazine (defended by Olivia Chow!).
Hilarity ensued as contestants had to trash the other mags, read excerpts from the mags to a jazz beat and, one by one, send the losers to the shredder!
It was very exciting to hear Shameless win! We now have the illustrious title of the first-ever winner of Canada Skims. Moments like these make me proud to be a magazine maker. Thanks Jean Yoon!

That was the most surreal Saturday morning I've had in quite some time. The magazine really has a life of its own now, getting press without our help. My favourite part was when the host announced "Shameless is the magazine all Canadians should be reading." I nearly cried.

Totally. I laughed alound when the panelists had to pass the mags to the person beside to trash talk. Shameless was passed to Olivia Chow, who I know actually loves us (she performed at one of our Shameless Storytellings and even auctioned off some artwork for us). I also liked the part when Jean Yoon read aloud from the Last Word column ("Chick") to the sound of a smooth jazz beat. It was awesome.

I was in the car and vaguely remember hearing the snippet where Maddy from Spiral Beach vetoed Chow's gardening magazine "cause...it's gardening" as Maddy said. That's when I went inside -- damn it! I missed all the Shameless, didn't even know it was in the running to be Canada's most skimmed magazine. damn my short drive from the cupcake shop to my house (although, since i got the last chocolate-coconut dozen, it wasn't a total loss. ) But yes, that is massively fantastic for Shameless. Is there in fact a way to download the episode?
Shameless is the magazine all Canadians should be reading"? That's verklempt-worthy, ladies.

Nope, they don't seem to archive the show. Too bad.
