Me at the December 10th 2006 Rally for the Status of Women
While reading this Montreal Gazette article entitled “Harper’s failure to woo women could hurt him in the polls” I’m inclined to ask YOU Shameless readers, how has our Conservative government been doing so far with women in Canada?
Sure, we’ve passed the whole cuts to any women’s groups that “lobby or advocate”, the Court Challenges Program, and removing the word “equality” from the mandate of Status of Women, but I still don’t feel any safer and I’m actually still angry we have this government in power.
So before I painstakingly list off all the things that have happened since then, what say you?

WOW...I can type all day long about this. Of course the daycare issue. Women are obviously disproportionably affected by no universal daycare. This sometimes puts women in difficult situations like choosing between a liveable wage and staying at home with her children.
The REDICULOUS amount of money spent on war paraphernalia. Tax money (what ever is left after all the corporate/high income tax cuts) are funnelled to war corporations to build tanks and bullets, when this money can be put towards education, daycare, workshops, healthcare, housing, ect; also known as REAL security.
This is something that can be debated, but even the treatment of women in Harper's cabinet. Women get placed in roles which the Cons don't care about and when the public cries out for real change in that area, he pulls out the women and replaces her with a man (Ambrose-Baird Anyone?)
There is like a million more things but I am getting too mad to continue...

It isn't that Harper has done anything terrible when it comes to women's issues. Except the daycare thing. Not that it would have bothered me because I plan on taking care of my own kids. But my plans don't mirror everyone elses. Because some women want to have careers, and some women need to work to take care of their kids.
It isn't that Harper is a woman-hater. He just ignores them. And that is what pisses me off.
But I guess that is what makes me so angry about Harper in general. He's done a few good things, but to me, the most important thing that needed to be addressed was climate change, and he's done nothing to make it better.
