So I hate abstinence only education, and I am always grateful that teens have other (better) options available to them. Because let’s face it, sometimes the abstinence only people don’t make a ton of sense. Rumour has it this billboard is over a decade old, but have things really changed all that much?

There's so much about abstinence-only that is nonsensical -- but to point out one recurring theme: how time-consuming is sex?
I mean. Yeah. Don't get me wrong. If you're doing it right then... sure. But is this really an either/or? "Well, I could get a university degree, or have sex, but I certainly don't have time for both!"
Is the suggestion supposed to be that sex is too distracting? Seriously, what's the conflict here?

Somehow I fail to identify the connection between abstinence and succesful graduation. Perhaps if your irresponsible (or just very unlucky/fertile) and find the role of parenthood thrust upon you? But surely the stress relief which (I assume) follows carnal satisfaction would aid success. This seems at least equally plausible.

it's not a coincidence that the image is of a black kid. abstinence-only people seem to think that PoC are their most crucial audience, and if only the girls especially would "keep their legs closed" all of society's ills would disappear. btw, a more recent example is the "waiting for the bling" ads that appeared in iowa last year. (i can just hear an abstinence-only campaigner coming up with this idea: "i've been watching BET, and it seems bling is what african-americans call wedding rings!")

They make it sound like that once you have sex you can't stop. Like it's some kind of addicting drug.
