From our lovely friends over at Power Camp (now Girls Action Foundation!):
What’s a Blogging Carnival, you ask?
A blogging carnival is when a bunch of bloggers are brought together on one site to write about a given topic, allowing readers to read a variety of outlooks on that issue.
To celebrate the Girls Action Foundation National Day of Action on February 14th, kickaction.ca will be hosting a blogging carnival! The carnival will be four weeks long, between the Day of Action and International Women’s Day, with a theme each week. The themes, based on discussions that came out of the National Retreat in October, will be:
Feb 9-14: Let’s Talk About Sex(ual health)
Feb 16-20: We need to talk!: Race & Gender
Feb 23-27: Indigenous Feminism: Remembering the past, reclaiming the present & celebrating the future
March 2-8: ‘Hypersexualization’, Pop Culture & Media: Who do they think we are?
We would like to have 2-3 guest bloggers each in French & English.
We’re asking for one major blog post that can be supplemented with videos (or replaced by a video blog if that’s what you’re into!), photos, and links to other sites that would give context to the reader or more information on whatever you’re blogging about. We’d be happy to have you write more than one post one more than one topic, but the main thing that we’re asking of you is to follow up in the comments that will be made on your blog. This will allow for an exchange between you and your readers and requires checking the site for a few days after your posts goes up.
In terms of content, we’re leaving that up to you! Obviously we ask that you relate whatever you’re discussing to the broad topic, and in keeping with general site policy we ask that all of our bloggers refrain from sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist and body-negative language, but other than that you’ve got free rein. The audience you’re writing for is approximately between the ages of 15 and 25.
If you’re interested in participating, send an email (including your preferred topic) to firstname.lastname@example.org & we’ll get back to you with even more details!
