And I can’t support ignorant city councillors.
The following is a quote from Toronto city councillor Rob Ford, in response to this year’s capital budget (which includes a $3.7 million program to calm neighborhood traffic and add bike lanes):
“I can’t support bike lanes. Roads are built for buses, cars, and trucks. My heart bleeds when someone gets killed, but it’s their own fault at the end of the day.” ~Rob Ford
(Wow. Bartlett’s, look out for Rob Ford).
Oh Rob. Be still my heart. Finally someone said it. Someone had the nerve to stand up to those rogue, fit, cycling jerks. They think they’re so smart in their reflective vests, with those little dinging bells and shiny helmets. Like they think that an environmentally responsible, no-impact vehicle is sooo clever. All smug and economical and reducing the burden on the health care system.
According to Robbie’s profile he is a “supporter, volunteer and/or member” of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. But cycling to work, thereby guaranteeing yourself regular heart healthy exercise? By heck, Councillor Rob Ford will have no part of it! Perhaps Rob should refresh himself on how the Heart and Stroke Foundation feels about physical activities like cycling.
