This Wednesday, October 2nd, join us for a fundraiser for Shameless Magazine! Betti Forde (a staple in Toronto’s queer dance scene) will be playing electro/hip hop/disco and opener DJ Zehra will be playing soca/rnb/90s tunes.

This is a 19+ event, Pay What You Can (suggested donation $5) at The Gladstone Hotel’s Melody Bar which is an accessible venue.

Betti Forde has opened for Diplo, Chromeo, Felix da Housecat, Cyndi Lauper and Frankie Knuckles to name but a few, and always has a crowd bumping with her eclectic set lists and mixing styles. She has headlined at Pride celebrations and toured internationally all over the world, rocking crowds from London to Ljubljana, B. She’s co-produced several awesome feminist music events including the Utopia Festival in Vancouver (2011). Betti also loves to sing, rap and bust into the splits, and she’s formally one-third of the critically acclaimed electro/hip hop outfit StinkMitt, who played with everyone from the Gossip to Para One, licensed tracks to the hit TV show The L-word, and changed the face of music forever. After moving to Toronto from Vancouver in 2009, Betti has been pursuing a PhD and teaching Gender Studies at York University. Follow her on Twitter.

Check out Betti Forde’s latest track featuring Peaches “Bored of Rob Ford.

DJ Zehra is a community organizer/media maker/activist. DJ Zehra comes from a long line of fierce brown women, whose journey has landed her on the traditional lands of the Missisaugas of new credit and Haudenosaunee peoples. A fierce fatty queero who loves some bachannal, she likes to eat yummy food w/ her community and family, find good remixes of Rihanna tunes and challenge the model minority/white supremacist machine in brown communities.
