Hall Monitors

March 10th, 2008     by Stacey May Fowles     Comments

I came across this piece at BlogTO on the topic of hall monitors and whether or not they are necessary in today’s high schools. I always thought of hall monitors as student volunteers but it looks like the reference here is to adults employed by the school board to “keep the peace.” The Toronto Star refers to the role as “part bouncer, part buddy,” and I’m actually impressed with this video and the way this particular hall monitor views his role as protecting students rather than punishing them.

It’s a refreshing take on “discipline.” What do you think?
