lesbianstd.com

When Stacey May posted about Proknowledge.org, a pro-life website that claimed to be providing the straight facts on sex - but was really spewing pretty skewed info about pre-marital sex and cohabitation for straight girls - Tuval pointed out that even though proknowledge.org isn’t one them, there are lots of great websites on the internet with real info about sexual health.

Add this one to the arsenal: the wonderfully named lesbianstd.com, a website for women who have sex with women, with detailed info on how STDs (including: syphilis! chlymadia! the now controversial HPV!) are transmitted between same-sex female couples.

It’s bad enough that in medicine the “regular” body is often defined as a male one, and any deviation (i.e. a female bod) is seen as an abnormality. But to top it off, sexual health info - and, let’s face it, all health info - is mostly written as if everybody’s straight (and white and has money and has…). A friend of mine once asked the head of gynaecology at a well-known Toronto hospital how HPV was passed from woman to woman, and the doctor was flabbergasted, saying “Honestly, I don’t know. No one’s ever asked me that question.”

lesbianstd.com to the rescue!
