Looking on the bright side: Brought to you by men in heels

May 1st, 2007     by Stacey May Fowles     Comments

I’m trying to make a concerted effort to look on the bright side of things lately. Theres been some serious feminist roadblocks as of late, but Im always on the hunt for the tiny victories that make things a little better, regardless of how small or, well, silly they seem. That’s why this story from the LAist caught my eye: Men walk a mile in “her shoes” (literally) to raise funds for the LA Valley Trauma Centre. The centre’s aim is the elimination of sexual and interpersonal violence “through healing, empowerment and increased public awareness of prevention strategies.”

It must have been a real sight to behold as men marched Ventura Blvd. clad in high heels, chanting “stop rape now.”

Check out the story (and the wonderful series of photos) here.475893125_22d63cb5a7.jpg
