Protests and demonstrations against Israel’s incursion of Gaza ( took place in Europe and Canada this week, as Israel continues its ground offensive in the region.

The investigation of Malaysia Airlines MH17 continues in the separatist-controlled Donetsk region of Ukraine. International governments are calling for sanctions, but some European leaders are hesitant to impose strict limitations due to their reliance on Russia for natural gas and oil exports.

Researchers visited Nunavut to talk about the high rate of tuberculosis (62 times the national average) among the province’s population. The research team discussed the importance of regular testing, community awareness of the disease, and ways in which more nutritious food can be brought into the community.

In the United States, President Obama signed an executive order to protect LGBT government employees against discrimination on the job. The ruling will apply to 28 million workers under federal contracts.

A Michigan jail has declared the orange jumpsuit “too trendy” to be worn by its inmates, following the success of Orange is the New Black. After seeing too many civilians wearing orange jumpsuits in public, the jail changed its uniform. Inmates will now wear black and white striped jumpsuits.
