take back the night

Toronto’s 27th Take Back The Night rally and march is happening this Saturday, hosted by the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre/Multicultural Women Against Rape (TRCC/MWAR) and community partners from Regent Park. This year’s theme is “We Demand Our Rights.” The aim of Take Back The Night is to draw attention to the impact of sexual violence, which we’ve been discussing a lot on this blog recently.

The location is particularly important since Toronto’s east side has seen an escalation in violence and assault this past summer: according to the police, 68 sex workers are assaulted every night! Take Back The Night has a long history of re-claiming the streets as a safe place for women to work and to walk.

The fair is wheelchair accessible, trans-positive and will have ASL interpretation and child care.

See you there!
