WEEKLY ROUND UP: APRIL 15

This week Indigenous activists and allies have occupied the Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada offices in Toronto, Winnipeg, and James Bay in response to a suicide crisis in Attawapiskat First Nation, Ontario and Pimickamak First Nation, Manitoba. You can follow the hashtags ‪#‎GroundZeroINAC‬ and #OccupyINAC for updates on the action and movement.

As a result of the activism and organizing of Black Lives Matter Toronto (BLMTO), it was announced this week that there will be a coroner’s inquest into the death of Andrew Loku. Also, BLMTO co-founder Yusra Khogali has written a critically important op-ed piece: “I was vilified for telling the truth about racism in Toronto.”

Friday marked a national day of action to raise the minimum wage to $15 with thousands of people participating in protests across the country. Protests also took place in over 300 U.S. cities.

Check out the series of DJ workshops in Vancouver aimed at, as Thump puts it, dismantling gender imbalances in electronic music industries.
