Learn The Art of Audio Storytelling

October 12th, 2018     by Mariel Marshall     Comments

As access to recording and editing technologies proliferate, the medium is becoming democratized. But opportunities to access quality training are few and far between. FIXT POINT Arts & Media is piloting a new training program that will give young women and non-binary youth the knowledge and practical skills they need to produce high-quality, compelling audio stories, and teach them how to use the medium of audio storytelling to engage their communities in meaningful ways.

The two-week workshop combines hands-on experience with in-studio training. Participants will learn and practice the following skills:

  • community outreach
  • interview and recording techniques
  • narrative shaping
  • audio editing

Participants will have the opportunity to interview members of a Toronto community or neighbourhood of their choosing. At the end of the workshop, participants will have created a short audio piece from their own gathered source material.

Program Dates:

Cohort #1: November 13th - 17th & 20th -24th

Cohort # 2: December 4th - 8th & 11th - 15th

Location: Dames Making Games office at Toronto Media Arts Centre, 32 Lisgar St, Toronto, ON M6J 0C9
