The Shamies are awards presented to the worst perpetrators of problematic media - the most sexist, racist, oppressive advertisements and other forms of media. These awards help raise critical awareness of the messages that we find around us, and can inspire us all to renew our commitment to producing and supporting media that advocates, informs and inspires. The evening will be hosted by comedian Lauren Mitchell, and our very own editorial and art director Sheila Sampath.

This evening, we will also be celebrating the best new writers as we present the prizes for the second annual Talking Back Awards. Awarded to the top youth writers in fiction, non-fiction and poetry - the winners will read from their works that evening.

Come enjoy excellent music (featuring DJ Betti Forde!), food and drinks (with thanks to the Afghan Women’s Catering Group), and help support our volunteer-run magazine for teen girls and trans* youth with our newly added 50/50 raffle and silent auction. Cash bar.
