Does this mean the anti-choicers will shut up about Morgentaler now?

July 9th, 2008     by Stacey May Fowles     Comments

Three in five support Morgentaler honour. From the Toronto Star: The exclusive Angus Reid Strategies online poll done yesterday and Monday - a week after the Canada Day announcement - showed that, of the 1,016 Canadian adults surveyed, 60 per cent supported Morgentaler getting the honour while 29 per cent opposed it. Our Blogger a Guest Blogger

July 9th, 2008     by Stacey May Fowles     Comments

Fabulous Shameless Blogger Allison Martell is doing a guest blogging stint over at Feministe. From her first post, regarding her own blog: …economics can be a lonely discipline for a woman, a feminist, really any sort of leftist. I wanted a place to chronicle my own intellectual development, and I also wanted to try to bridge the gap between the feminist and economic blogospheres. Allison’s blog, Economic Woman, is definitely worth a read, so be sure to … READ MORE

We should turn up the volume

July 7th, 2008     by Stacey May Fowles     Comments

In the week that followed our posting the news that Morgentaler was named to the Order of Canada, the Shameless blog has seen its share of commentary from anti-choice camps (comments we put in moderation while we discussed whether or not Shameless was the right place to be having these kinds of discussions,) and we’ve also seen a fair amount of anti-choice activity aiming to strip Morgentaler of the honor. We’ve seen letters to the … READ MORE

    Lazy Sunday, I wish.

July 6th, 2008     by Stacey May Fowles     Comments

I have to work today, busily recruiting new subscribers (only $10!) and donors (every little bit helps!) to the magazine so our upcoming issue (soon!) can get into the world without a hitch. Hanging out with my laptop, I can daydream about a lazy sunday. (For some reason, this video never gets old for me. Also, I kind of thought this was the hotness.) If you like us (and you’re already a subscriber), please consider making … READ MORE

    Come Back to Guyville

July 3rd, 2008     by Stacey May Fowles     Comments

Fifteen years ago an album was released that changed my life completely. When my parents decided to move me from my Canadian home to the southern US, I listened to that album over and over the entire drive. I was an angry, angsty grrrl and it was the perfect soundtrack. That album understood me and my burgeoning sexuality, understood my frustrations and yearnings, understood my recent realization that life was kind of a pain in the … READ MORE

Good Morning Shameless readers! Thanks to our reader Nikita for alerting us all to the fact that Morgentaler has been among those named to Order of Canada. Good morning indeed! June 27th, 2008     by Stacey May Fowles     Comments

I just want to give a quick shout out to the friendly people at The Bike Joint for getting my bike going again when my chain jumped ship yesterday. I was stranded at a stoplight with a mere 15 minutes to get to my appointment and low and behold, The Bike Joint was there to help. Thanks for the bonus of pumping up my tires and giving me the phone number for the Community Bicycle … READ MORE

“All these gung-ho third-wave feminists gladden the heart of an old second-waver like moi. That’s because, rather than run from the f-word while benefiting from the hard-won battles for equal rights, these women embrace it.” -Antonia Zerbisias on Jessica Valenti, The Miss G Project for Equity in Education, Shameless magazine, and, well, you, in today’s Toronto Star. “The Boy is the Boy.”

June 20th, 2008     by Stacey May Fowles     Comments

Hat tip to Quill & Quire for this one. According to Glenn Beck, time travel, Nazis, and spies are everything a boy is supposed to like: Glenn Beck, a conservative political commentator who appears regularly on CNN Headline News, recently welcomed U.S. children’s book author Ted Bell to his show, in order to sing the praises of Bell’s new adventure title, Nick of Time. However, it seems clear from the lack of interest Beck shows in Bell … READ MORE
