Dear Shameless Readers,

As you may know, at the beginning of this year, Shameless paused production of the magazine to consider how to run a sustainable feminist media organization. At the time, our all-volunteer staff felt they couldn’t sustainably and ethically produce the magazine while running youth programming, maintaining our blog, carrying the load of full-time work or school, fighting for the safety and dignity of our communities, and taking what we need for our own mental health.

After much reflection and discussion, we have come to the difficult decision to stop publishing a print magazine. We have also, for now, paused digital publication and our other activities until we can determine capacity.

As a feminist media justice organization that has been publishing a print magazine for almost 20 years, the decision to stop printing Shameless has not been an easy one. We are immensely proud of the work we have created as a collective over these past two decades. We have published 47 print issues, engaged a youth advisory board, run a podcast camp, signed and written open letters and statements in support of social movements, held two conferences and, at one point, a semi-regular dance party.

The support of our subscribers, donors, and community has been crucial in supporting all of this work over the years. Without you, there would have been no Shameless. If you wish to reach us please e-mail talkingback@shamelessmag.com.

We have so much gratitude to the countless hard-working writers, publishers, editors, illustrators, designers, artists, managers, youth advisory board members and board members who have put so much time and energy into creating a vital publication. We are extremely grateful to our subscribers, who have believed in us and whose contributions have sustained Shameless for so many years. We are sad to say goodbye.

But it’s not forever. We are continuing our conversations about Shameless’s role in the future of feminist media. Stay tuned for future opportunities to reflect and honor the legacy of Shameless with us while we consider what’s to come.

Thank you for your support over many years. We hope that Shameless has inspired and moved you to action.

Yours in resistance,

The Shameless collective (past and present)
