    Atoosa, Atoosa

February 8th, 2006     by Nicole Cohen     Comments

Rebecca Traister has a great little report about Seventeen magazine Editor-In-Chief Atoosa Rubenstein on Broadsheet, Salon.com’s blog geared to women (in a feminist sort of way). Apparently Rubenstein told Fashion Week Daily that she loves designer Bryan Bradley so much that “I feel like I want to start starving myself so I can wear those clothes now.” I don’t think you can even pretend that editors of mainstream teen magazines have teenage girls’ best interests in mind … READ MORE

The women of the Miss G__ Project have had a busy few months trying to get womens studies onto Ontario high school curriculum (see News Flash in our Fall 2005 issue). November 14th, 2005     by Nicole Cohen     Comments

Check out Guardian writer Zoe Williams’ take on the London Underground’s leaflet, Tube* Tips For Women, in the paper’s weekend magazine. Williams tears into the silly, patronizing government-issued tips, which include doozies like this one: “Things like twisted ankles can be a real pain so mind your step - especially if you’re wearing your party shoes.” In Shameless’ Fall issue, Jennifer Goldberg wrote about the Tokyo Metropolitan Subway in Japan, which now offers women-only cars to try … READ MORE

    HOMOSAYWHAT?

September 30th, 2005     by Audrey     Comments

What would you do if you shopped around a book to publishers and got nothing but rejection slips in return? You could give up and let your manuscript collect dust in a box somewhere, or, you could pick yourself off the ground and publish it yourself. That’s exactly what Kate (Hipstatic) and Rebecka did when their queer anthology called Ain’t Your Sister was rejected by a series of small Canadian publishers. Though they felt shaken at first … READ MORE

One heck of an art exhibit

September 27th, 2005     by Melinda Mattos     Comments

Knitters take note: a Viennese art group called Gelatin recently unveiled the cutest public art installation we’ve ever seen. It’s a 200-foot-long pink toy bunny rabbit, knitted by dozens of grannies, located on the side of a mountain in Italy. What does the art “mean”? Your guess is as good as ours, but it sure looks snuggly. Members of Gelatin told Ananova.com they expect hikers to scale the bunny and lounge on its … READ MORE

The two-hour hands-on workshop will teach you binding techniques and how to design, produce and distribute your book.
